Separation process: Punching
Punching is a separation process for producing flat parts from various materials with a punch press or by hitting a hammer head from a cutting tool. This is done with a cutting die, which in a technical context is a tool for separating cardboard sheets into parts.
But what do we need all the technology for to produce our puzzles?
History of the cutting die
But first let's start with the history of the cutting die!
The invention of the steel rule die is closely linked to the development of corrugated packaging. Due to an accidental shortage in the production of paper bags, the American Robert Gair developed the original die-cut in 1839. The German Arthur Otto, an employee of Gair, brought this invention to Germany, which led to the emergence of further competitors as brand steel cutters.
Technically, the cutting die as we know it today has only developed over the last 50 years. The development of laser technology automated the production process, which led to a drastic increase in productivity.
What do we punch?
We punch apart the final printed boxes so we can guarantee you the puzzle fun!
Once our motifs for the puzzles have been printed onto the cardboard, they still have to be cut into their typical individual pieces. To do this, a puzzle punching die with the force of 300-1,000 tonnes punches the puzzle into its individual pieces. This guarantees cleanly separated edges and detached pieces.

Is every puzzle the same?
Of course, we don't punch every puzzle the same way!
The customer usually sends us the desired layout himself. We are also happy to make suggestions and inspire the customer with one of our existing cutting dies. In the meantime, we have a large number of cutting dies for the puzzles in our warehouse. With this, we guarantee individual puzzle fun!
